In 2022, the Rahman family is organizing a competition for youth (under 30 years of age) for furthering progressive values and underlying the importance of freedom of expression in Pakistan under the umbrella of the Ahfaz ur Rahman award for courage and freedom of expression. Pakistan today finds itself in a precarious position where even after more than seventy years of independence, the entrenchment of basic democratic values and institutions remains a distant dream. The evils of unbridled capitalism, barbaric feudalism, religious fanaticism and obscurantism, reign supreme. Exacerbating these, indeed often caused by these, is the ever-shrinking space for free expression of dissent. Thus Pakistan faces an uphill battle in tackling not only socioeconomic problems but is also ill-equipped to deal with existential issues such as climate change and global pandemics.
We believe the hope, as usual, lies with the younger generation. As an element of that hope, we invite young people under 30 to submit their entries which show an engagement with societal challenges and problems while approaching them from the prism of progressive values of equality, democracy and freedom of expression.
Entry Format:
The entry itself may be either non-fiction or fiction any may include anything from analytical essays to creative stories, skits and sketches. It can take any form including writing or an audio-visual/video format. In either Urdu or English
For writing entries: Minimum length 1000 words. No limit on Max words.
For video/audio-visual entries: Minimum length - Five minutes
Poetry submissions will be considered but need to be of sufficient quality/substance to compete with the other categories.
Entry Eligibility Criteria:
Any young person younger than 30 years of age at the time of submission is eligible.

Please also attach a photo/scan of your CNIC as proof of age.
For video entries, if attaching the video is not feasible, kindly copy the link/URL to the video in your submission.
A prize money of Rs. 75,000 shall be awarded to the winner while the runner up will receive Rs. 50,000.
The entries will also be shared on this website.

پاکستان میں آزادئ اظہار رائے کی اہمیت اور ترقی پسند اقدار کو فروغ دینے کے لئے رحمان فیملی 2022ء میں نوجوانوں کے لئے ایک مقابلہ منعقد کرا رہی ہے.آزادی کے تقریباً پچھتر سال بعد بھی پاکستان بے یقینی کی کیفیت سے دو چار ہے۔بنیادی جمہوری اقدار اور اداروں کا،استحکام ابھی بھی ایک خواب ہے۔بے لگام سرمایہ داری، احتجاجی جاگیرداری، مذہبی انتہا پسندی اور قدامت پرستی کا دور دورہ ہے۔اسی لئے اختلاف رائے اور اور آزادئ اظہارکی گنجائش کم ہوتی جا رہی ہے۔پاکستان نہ صرف سماجی و اقتصادی مسائل سے نمٹنے کی جنگ میں مصروف ہے بلکہ کلائمٹ چینج اور عالمی وباوءں جیسے وجودی مسائل سے بھی دو چار ہے
انٹری فارمیٹ: انٹری فکشن، نان فکشن، یا تجزیاتی مضامین سے لے کر تخلیقی کہانیوں، اسکٹس، اور خاکوں پر مبنی ہو سکتی ہے۔تحریری شکل کے علاوہ آڈیو ویژول/ وڈیو فارمیٹ میں بھی تخلیقات جمع کرائی جا سکتی ہیں۔انگریزی یا اردو دونوں زبانوں میں تخلیقات جمع کرائی جا سکتی ہیں
